Complications of thyroidectomy

Complications of thyroidectomy
  1. Recurrent laryngeal nerve injury --> vocal cord paresis, stridor
  2. Hypoparathyroidism --> hypocalcemia (due to removal/injury/devascularization of parathyroid glands)
  3. Bleeding --> airway compromise
  4. Injury to external branch of superior laryngeal nerve --> loss of high note voice
  5. Infection
  6. Seroma
  7. Keloid
